How to Pose Ragdolls

How to pose ragdolls in Gmod! I've seen ATON of bad poses. And I decided to give some advice to the good members of FPSB. ;D Now. How to pose with my lovable person skin. Also, this is my first tutorial I've written in 3 years. So bear with me here. Step One. Pick up your spawned ragdoll with your physics gun by the torso and try to level him out pretty well with his knees slightly bending. Right click, and his torso is frozen like in picture 2 Step Two. Goto a side angle. You will notice something. His ass is sticking out like...well...goatse...and that's REALLY not acceptable. Tuck it back in. If yours knees are bent too much, then unfreeze the torso, make it higher, then tuck in his ass. Then straighten out his torso that that it is lined up. This is really ignored by some people. YOU MUST LINE UP THE TORSO WITH THE LOWER TORSO!!! If you managed to do this right, It should look like picture three. Except in that picture, I forgot to put the torso completely lined up with the lower torso. My mistake. ;^^ I fixed it later. Step Three. Position the head to where it's normal. This shouldn't be hard. Also, make the knees slightly bent. To where it's realistic looking. Nobody stands without their knees bent. Should look like picture 4. Step Four. Place the arms slightly out, not very much. Not enough to where it looks like he's trying to skateboard and not too little to where it looks like he's glued his arms to his shirt. Place the dominate foot (if you're right handed, your right foot is the dominate foot) slightly in front of the other foot. Please note that I'm not left handed in real life. If you managed to do this right, it should look like picture 5. If you did this all correctly, it should look pretty damn nice. In picture 6 is me comparing it to an NPC. Pretty close. But, some things are off I'll admit that I covered in my tutorial. And please take your attention of the NPCs huge axe. Other things: Type this in console:

dont_buff_my_pylon 1

phys_timescale 0.1

(This is if you want to do a pose but can't get it to bend properly. Just don't use this at the start of posing.) Extra things that are important:
  1. camera tool
  2. don't use gm_construct
  3. graphics set to high
  4. anti-aliasing set to atleast 2x if your graphics card can handle it.
  5. Custom content. VALVe did make some good models and materials but we've all seen them a million times and they are all BOOORING so get some custom ones.
  6. If you're making a pose with arms outward, make sure the arm bends. Nobody really sticks their arm out as far as possible to hold a beer bottle. And if you're doing a pose where you hold something, nocollide it into their hands. So it doesn't look like it's a foot from their hand and just floating by it.
  7. Don't be a mingebag. Sex poses and terrible.
  8. Don't do poses online with your friends. Odds are you're both on different levels of skill and that some things you don't want in a pose (such as chat log, bad poses) will end up in the shot.
  9. No, balloons on a gman ragdoll are not cool.
  10. Don't use NPCs.
  11. If you're going to do editing, don't use MSpaint.
  12. Bloom can spice up an image, but too much can ruin it. Just like SHEFing.
  13. Depth can make an image look cool. Just be careful when you make the blur stand and end. Because blurring out your pose SUCKS!
  14. Save! Save your pose! You don't want to get ready to post it then realize that something is out of place and have to start all over again.
  15. Don't change the timescale then kill an NPC, then freeze him then turn him into a pose.
  16. Get FakeFactory's high red skins. Those really bring up the quality on the pose and Gmod in general. Thanks to MosesTheRipper for reminding me of this. ;^_^
I hope you learned something. I have learned something from this myself. Oh yeah, for that skin and my personal l33t skin. Goto this link to get it. The skin used it face posable, finger posable, eye posable, and very detailed in it the sections too. To use there just goto face poser to use them. Now go make some poses and post in this thread and make me proud. :D

There is also fakefactorie's extremely high res HL2 textures that you can use for Gmod which make it much for lifelike. Such as Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

Posted by ircmaster Sorry but that's the hard way. It's good but there is a much easier way to make ragdolls standing up. When you spawn them, Statue tool their head and then pick them up and make them look like their sitting.
That's a bad way. Because they look really stiff and that's not really posing.

No dude, you unfreeze them once you get them up. It's a much easier way to get ragdolls standing up.

Better, but try the <u> (underline) code, the <strong> (bigger) code, and the <frameset> (border arround text) code.
